CAPABILITY 03 / 06 · ParaTrack gyro steering

STEERED BY GYRO.

Prime Horizontal ParaTrack 2 guidance for survey-grade accuracy on long crossings, deep bores and anywhere walkover locating cannot reach.

THE SCOPE

ParaTrack gyro steering

A pilot bore is only as good as the information steering it. Walkover locators need a technician on the surface directly above the drill head; under a highway, a sea channel, a refinery or an airport runway that is not possible. ParaTrack replaces the surface reference with a gyroscopic steering tool in the drill string that measures azimuth and inclination directly, with an optional surface coil for magnetic ranging where the highest accuracy is specified.

Crossroad runs the ParaTrack 2 gyro module on its maxi and midi rigs and offers it as a standalone guidance service to other HDD contractors. Every rod is logged, the survey is compared to the design profile in real time, and the as-built bore is delivered as a chainage, depth and offset table that fits straight into the client's GIS or as-built drawings.

WHAT WE DELIVER

IN SCOPE ON EVERY JOB

  • 01ParaTrack 2 gyro steering on Crossroad bores and as a service to third-party rigs
  • 02Steering beneath highways, water, airports, plants and interference-rich sites
  • 03Magnetic ranging with surface coil where sub-metre exit accuracy is specified
  • 04Real-time comparison of the survey against the design profile
  • 05Rod-by-rod as-built record: chainage, depth, offset, azimuth, inclination
  • 06Independent verification with TKQ locator and beacons where surface access allows

HOW IT RUNS

SEQUENCE ON SITE

01

Design upload

The engineered bore profile is loaded into the guidance software with entry and exit coordinates.

02

Rod-by-rod survey

At every rod change the gyro reports position and attitude; the steering decision is made against the design.

03

Course correction

The driller orients the bent sub to bring the head back to line and grade before deviation accumulates.

04

As-built delivery

The logged survey becomes the as-built profile handed over with the crossing.

See the full four-stage bore animated on the home page, or size your own crossing with the HDD tools.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED

Engineers answer every enquiry. If your question is not here, send it over.

01When is gyro steering necessary instead of walkover?

Whenever the surface above the bore cannot be walked: open water, live highways and secure plant areas, and whenever the bore is too deep or the site too magnetically noisy for a walkover locator to read reliably. Many authority specifications now require it on crossings over a set length.

02Do you provide the service to other contractors?

Yes. Crossroad mobilises the ParaTrack 2 module with an operator to third-party rigs across the UAE and the region, including the data logging and as-built reporting.

03How accurate is it?

With gyro alone, exit accuracy on long crossings is typically within a metre. With the surface coil for magnetic ranging it improves further, which is why it is specified for pipeline tie-ins and pit exits with tight tolerances.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

PLANNING A CROSSING?

Send the location, length and pipe spec. You will hear back from an engineer, not a call centre.
